The XX Baltic Student Song and Dance Festival "Gaudeamus" has come to a close after three unforgettable days in Riga, bringing together thousands of students from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia to celebrate music, dance, culture, and friendship.

Throughout the festival, Riga became a vibrant meeting place for the Baltic student community. The programme featured concerts, folk dance performances, the traditional festive procession, and numerous cultural events, creating an atmosphere of unity and shared heritage.

Our photo gallery captures the festival's most memorable moments – from the Opening Concert at the University of Latvia, the lively Herb Market (Zāļu tirgus) in Dome Square, and the Folk Dance Concert “On The Same Path” at the Dailes Theatre, to the Lithuanian Folk Music Concert “Baltic Songs” (Baltijas dziesmas) in the University of Latvia's Great Hall and the Sacred Music Concert at Riga Cathedral. The festival concluded on 21 June with the colourful Participants' Procession through Riga and the grand closing concert, "To Infinity" (Līdz bezgalībai), held at the Freedom Monument.

About the Festival

The “Gaudeamus" tradition began in 1956 in Tartu, and since then the festival has been held 19 times across the Baltic States. It is an important part of Baltic cultural and academic identity, promoting the preservation of traditions and encouraging young people’s participation in folk culture.

The festival plays a significant role in safeguarding the unique Song and Dance Festival tradition and strengthening unity among the Baltic States. The event is held alternately in each of the Baltic countries.

The festival is organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia in cooperation with the University of Latvia and the Riga City Municipality.
