From 27 June to 6 July, the Czech capital Prague hosted the Dance World Cup, a world championship in modern dance. This year, the Ukrainian national team nominated 28 students of the UKD Choreographic School Studio and King Danylo University College of Arts to represent the country.
Preparations for the championship lasted for a year. After getting a pass at the national selection for the Ukrainian national team in January, students worked on dance choreography, performance skills, physical fitness and acting. They meticulously developed stage images and selected costumes, make-up and hairstyles. Psychological preparation for performances was equally important.
For ten days, the children competed in such categories as jazz, show dance, lyrical dance and street dance. In a tough competition with the world's best dancers from 54 countries, the Ukrainian team won an honourable 7th place in the team standings.
"We are very proud of our students: Gold medal - Veronika Kukharska (children, solo, dance show) Gold medal - Veronika Kukharska (children, solo, lyrical) Gold medal - Yevheniya Rozgonyi (junior, solo, dance show) Silver medal - Yevheniya Rozgonyi (junior, solo, lyrical) Bronze medal - Diana Stepak (children, solo, jazz) Bronze medal - Solomiya Tkachivska (senior, solo, dance show)," said Vasyl Sheremeta, the team's coach.
A special event of the Finals was the performance of the DWC Junior Dance Company, in which the leading parts were performed by incredibly talented resident of Frankivsk, a graduate of the Professional College of King Danylo University, and now a student of The Brighton Academy (UK) - Solomiya Tkachivska.
"It's an incredible feeling for dancers, teachers and parents alike to hear the National Anthem of Ukraine and know that our students have won the right for it to be played. All of our dancers received Golden Tickets, which entitle them to free training at the prestigious Spanish Institute of Arts in Barcelona," says coach Natalia Chashechnikova.
